Pedagogy lies at the heart of Feia. We love to teach, to learn, and to share in community and knowledge. We believe in the beautiful ugliness of failure, and the charming surprises buried within successes. Our ceramics workshops capture that essence, and provide an intimate setting to grow your practice. Whether you’ve never touched clay in your life or are a full-time artist, join us and celebrate everything clay has to offer.

The Workshop Basics:
What
The most wholistic offering is a three week course consisting of three four-hour sessions taught by Thomas Martinez Pilnik. You will learn a variety of handbuilding techniques alongside introductions to glazing, surface treatments, kiln operation, and the wider world of clay. By the end, you will create, glaze, and fire a final sculpture for you to take home. The $250 program includes all materials, snacks, and instruction.
For something a bit more casual but just as hands-on, our 2-hour drop-in classes will allow you to get a feel for clay and create the small sculpture of your dreams. Included in the $60 price, we will then glaze and fire the piece ready for pick up in 2-3 weeks. You are also more than welcome to come back and glaze the work yourself! This option is great to dip your toe in, try us out before committing, and just enjoy a nice afternoon out.
We also offer many other more custom options! Get in touch for more :)
Who
6-10 students maximum per workshop. Newcomers, artists, professionals, artisans, explorers, and everyone in between welcome! Ages 8+ recommended but littles are welcome with parental supervision. Kids Club is now available too!

Where
A brand new 700 square foot studio at 1114 S El Camino Real in beautiful San Clemente. About an hour from Los Angeles, you’ll get to take in the fresh sea air and explore the charms of Orange County. Please arrange travel in advance. Class times are set to best avoid commuter traffic and there is lot and street parking available.
How
Through a variety of pedagogical strategies, fun exercises, and hands-on activities, you will quickly get a feel for clay. After that, we will discover everything together as we build, destroy, recreate, paint, glaze, and fire! Each session will be a mix of more structured play and free studio time with instruction peppered in.

This option includes group instruction and event time if you’re looking for more familiar fun with friends or colleagues! Please get in touch! These events will also include refreshments, snacks, some special merch, and instruction.
