“I was meant for the stage, I was meant for the curtain” - The Decemberists

Feia is proud to present Proscenium, a solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Luke Forsyth.  Opening on July 18, the show marks the second presentation at the flat’s Los Angeles space. Borrowing from the visual language of stagecraft, art direction, scenic design, and prop-making, Proscenium unfolds like a play without a beginning, middle, or end. Set within a domestic environment, the presentation invites viewers into a suspended narrative where illusion, performance, and materiality converge, dissolving the boundaries between the theatrical and the quotidian.

Luke Forsyth

Luke Forsyth ( b. 1982, Arcata, CA ) currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. He went to both UC Santa Cruz and Humboldt State for his BFA. Forsyth’s focus on Californian art movements has lead him to embrace traditional imagery such as flowers and landscapes, but with a playful twist. This focus, in turn, allows the simple iconography of his work to speak universally, while drawing on material experimentation to provide dense layers of inquiry. Often using chalkboard black backgrounds that drastically juxtapose colorful mark-making, his practice draws from a fine art illustration appreciation and a love for art historical research. Forsyth has shown his work across the United States in spaces including Megan Mulrooney (Los Angeles), Feia (Los Angeles), Octavia Art Gallery (New Orleans), Smoke the Moon (Santa Fe), and Chef’s Projects (Portland). His work is in the collection of multiple hospitals, financial institutions, and notable private collections.
